Gentlemen
Cookies
I
don’t know where I came across this recipe, but am assuming the
name comes from the fact it has coffee, dates and raisins: treats
for a gentleman?
| 2
c brown sugar, packed |
1
t cinnamon |
| 1
c shortening |
1
t nutmeg |
| 2
eggs |
3/4
c raisins |
| 1/2
c cold coffee |
3/4
c dates, chopped |
| 3
1/2 c flour, divided |
1
c chopped nuts |
| 1
t baking soda |
|
| 1/4
t baking powder |
|
| 1
t salt |
|
| |
|
Preheat
oven to 400°F.
Combine
3 cups flour with baking soda and powder, salt and spices. Mix 1/2
c flour with raisins, dates and nuts, to keep fruit from sticking
together. Cream shortening with brown sugar. Add in eggs, mixing
well. Add in half of the flour mixture, then all the coffee and
the rest of the flour mixture. Next, mix in the fruit and nuts.
Drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheet and bake for about 8 to 10 minutes.
