Molasses
Ginger Hermits
A
molasses-based cookie, making it perfect for autumn.
| 1/2
c shortening |
3
t baking powder |
| 1/2 c
sugar |
1 t ginger |
| 1 egg,
beaten |
1 t salt |
| 1 c molasses |
1/2 t
baking soda |
| 3 c flour |
1/4 c
sour milk |
| |
1 c raisins |
Preheat
oven to 400°F.
Cream
the shortening with the sugar until light. Add in the egg and stir
in the molasses, mixing well. Sift the dry ingredients together,
then add alternately with the sour milk. Last, add in the raisins.
Drop by spoonfuls onto baking sheet. Bake for about 10 minutes.

t baking soda |
| 1/2 c
brown sugar |
1 t cream
of tartar |
| 1/2 c
sugar |
1/4 t
salt |
| 1 egg,
beaten |
1 c coconut |
| 2 c flour |
1 t banana
flavoring |
Preheat
oven to 350°F.
Cream
the shortening with the sugars until light. Add in egg, and scrape
bottom. Sift the dry ingredients and add to the cream mixture. Stir
in coconut and banana flavoring. Gather dough by the spoonfuls and
roll into balls. Dip the tops of the balls in water, then dip in
granulated sugar. Place sugar sides up on baking sheets, and bake
for about 15 minutes.
